Installing the Dimarzio Fortitude isn’t too difficult, and can go a long way toward improving your sound, especially if you’re using a budget guitar with stock pickups. Here’s a common way to install these pickups in a super Strat-style guitar in Example 2 Example 2 We have illustrated a common way to install these pickups in a Gibson Les Paul style guitar in Example 1. Complete Dimarzio Fortitude Wiring Diagram Solder the red wire to whichever you unsoldered when you uninstalled the old pickup. The Hot wire usually goes to the switch or one of the lugs on the volume pot. The Ground wire almost always goes to the back of the volume pot, so solder your green and bare wires in that location. ![]() Once you have the wiring code, the installation is easy and only requires doing the reverse of what you have already done. Next, you need to figure out the wiring code. Be sure to make an accurate record of where they go, for future reference. Once you know which wires belong to the pickup, you can use your soldering iron to disconnect them. With the pickup free from the guitar, you can check the wire colors to see where they lead in the control cavity. Otherwise, assuming just standard humbucking wiring, the White BL wire will equal the Red Dimarzio wire and the Black & Bare BL will equal the Green Dimarzio wire. If you have a specific wiring diagram, then I can tell you where each wire will go. You will also need to remove the control cavity cover as well to have access to the electronics. Now, translating these to Dimarzio directy will be a little harder. ![]() To remove the pickup, use a Phillips screwdriver to unscrew it from the body. A screwdriver, electrical tape, soldering iron, and a little solder should be all you need to get these pickups installed and working:įirst, remove the pickup you’re replacing. You won’t need a lot of tools to install your pickup. It’s the signature pickup of Gojira guitarist and lead vocalist Joe Duplantier. It has a slight boost at 160hz and a small decrease at 500hz. The DiMarzio Fortitude is known for being sharp and precise it’s warm-sounding without being muddy and works well with alternate tunings. However, if your guitar’s wiring is set up in a way that our wiring instructions do not address (special coil-splitting, or unique switching, etc…), then you may find this pickup wire color-code chart very helpful. In most cases, ignore the original wiring, and follow the Seymour Duncan wiring instructions. You cannot simply replace your old pickup’s wires with your new pickup’s wires color-for-color. You have just come face to face with one of the brutal (and frustrating) realities of pickup swapping: different pickup manufacturers use different wire color-codes. We know… you went to install your brand new Seymour Duncan pickups, and the wiring instructions tell you how to connect everything – BUT – the wire colors of your stock pickups look the same but are located in completely different places than our wiring instructions indicate (or they’re completely different colors altogether). ![]()
